In its search for rare emotions, Maison Van Cleef & Arpels has made its Collection Extraordinaire into an olfactory destination for those who love precious ingredients. Here, Bois d’Iris pays homage to one of the most iconic materials.
The secret aromas of Iris pallida mature underground. One must wait at least three years before the flowers rhizome is ready to be extracted. Several more months of patience are then required as the root is transformed into an absolute. After years of work and waiting, the long-desired concrete can finally be harvested. Its rare and delicate fragrance calls to mind make-up, rice powder and dry wood – scents that greatly inspired perfumer Emilie Coppermann.
Plumes of woody aromas
Launched in 2009, this trail mingles the most powdery iris with a selection of sun-tinged woods. As luminous as the Tuscan lands where the flower grows, this fragrance brings together dry vetiver and a matt wood accord with slightly salty swirls of iris. Several plumes of addictive smoky notes then unsettle this minimalistic composition. The sacred ingredients of myrrh, labdanum, incense and ambergris take us back to the beginnings of perfumery. Bois d’Iris mingles gentle powdery notes with smoky incense, radiant Italian sunlight with dusky Oriental nights. This elegant fragrance leaves a delicate impression on the skin.
